Wondering where to eat vegan in Singapore?
I’ve traveled to over 32 countries trying the vegan offerings. Here are 3 restaurants you should definitely hit if you’re looking to eat vegan in Singapore.
1. For a boujie, prix-fixe experience: Joie
One complaint I have as a vegan-ish gal who loves fine dining, is that there aren’t enough vegan fine dining restaurants. Often, the best vegan options tend to be served out of a food truck, or a fast-casual spot, or in a strip mall. So, when I find a fancy or date-night worthy vegan spot, I get extra excited, and Joie takes it up a notch by offering a six-course prixe-fix option.
Although Joie is vegetarian, not vegan, they are able to make most of their dishes vegan and have a separate dairy-free menu if you ask for it.
The vibes match the menu in that the restaurant is located at the top of the Somerset mall with a nice view, outside seating so you can enjoy said view, and reasonably upscale vibes.
Another thing I liked about Joie is that although they get a lil’ fancy with their dishes (and definitely pay a lot of attention to plating), the dishes are still mostly vegetable-forward rather than using faux meat or cheese substitutes.
2. For gluten-free vegans: Cultivate
If you’re vegan and gluten-free, I feel for you, because sometimes the options at omnivore restaurants are basically just a very sad salad. At Cultivate, that is definitely not the case. You can eat caviar, cheese plates, and plenty of desserts, too.
Also, the vibes are super cute. It’s located in the Maxwell Reserve Singapore hotel, and the space looks like the library from Beauty and the Beast with dark, moody vibes and lots of books.
I’m going to be honest, in terms of food taste, this was probably my least favorite of the three restaurants I listed in this blog post. The food wasn’t bad by any means, but nothing really “wow-ed” me. To be fair, they were working with a gluten-free handicap, and I did order some strange items — a caviar spread, cheese plate, pesto dip, and caesar salad. I did love the green juice though, so maybe stop by here for a snack if you’re not sure you wanna do a full meal here.
3. For something for everyone: Real Food
Real Food is one of those vegetarian spots that’s a safe bet. It’s located in a mall (like many restaurants in Singapore). The vibes aren’t boujie, but they’re not casual either. And the menu spans far and wide with a lot of classics and a lot of different cuisines — Indian, Chinese, Italian, and American.
And, like many restaurants that cook food from a variety of cuisines, none of the food was life-changing, but it was all pretty good! My favorite thing we ordered was actually the apple tart we got for dessert — so don’t miss that!
In terms of vibes, I’d go on a date here and not feel weird about it if that helps set the scene. Like Cultivate, there were a lot of books as decor, but the vibe was lighter and brighter. This also seems like a decent spot to cowork. And if you want even more books, the iconic Library @ Orchard is located in this same mall, so you might want to check that out before you go eat.
Like Joie and many of the spots on this list of vegan in Singapore restaurants, Real Food is vegetarian, not vegan, but they can of course accommodate vegans very easily and most of the menu is vegan!
4. Hawker Stalls
If you’re eating vegan in Singapore, you should of course also check out the hawker stalls! I saw some vegetarian stalls at Maxwell’s Food Center and other hawker stalls, but you might want to have Google Translate handy to make sure that the stalls are able to accommodate vegan options.
