How Do You Dress For Your Mood When You’re Sad?

February 4, 2017 by loxandleather 6 Comments

Do you guys know why athleisure became so trendy?

Some experts hypothesized that it was due to the recession (sorry, couldn’t find the link online, I believe I read it in a book) and everyone feeling like shit because they were poor. It’s hard to put on your fancy pants when you’re low-key bummed about your debt, so yoga pants were much simpler.

Athleisure never went “out” of style, but I feel like people have been taking new liberties when it comes to pieces usually reserved for the gym. Brands like Nike, Adidas, etc. are suddenly fashion-forward for the club instead of just for running errands, and celebs like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are legit wearing sweatpants with thotty tops and lacy bras and calling it an outfit.

Well, I’m glad that it’s socially acceptable for me to throw on a giant sweatshirt and call it an outfit, because I’ve really felt like shit lately.

I know bloggers are supposed to be all like, “hey, look at this fab vacay I took, look at this fab outfit I’m wearing, look at this fab avocado toast that I ate,” but since this is my personal blog, I want to be as real as possible.

Ever since the election (also my birthday, FML), I’ve been down and can’t seem to pick myself back up. Winters are always tough for me emotionally, especially in NYC for some reason, but all the political turmoil and tragic headlines, along with having to stare at a computer all day for work, has really taken a toll.

I used to be the girl who would over-dress for work and use any excuse to wear heels, and I’ve suddenly become someone who wears sweatpants to the office and constantly chooses the comfiest shoes possible.

It might have to do with the fact that my office doesn’t have a real dress code or the fact that athleisure has taken a new level of trendy, but I think part of it has to do with my mood.

Anyways, you’ve probably had enough of my public venting session, so here’s an outfit where I wear something comfy on top, but slightly comfy on the bottom. Because really, who needs pants in times like these?

Also, wanted to point out the designers of this sweatshirt, Urban Sophistication. The brand is by two Israeli teens that I interviewed for Galore. Their stuff is really cool and it’s always great to see young adults doing big things.

Nothin’ But Net: Sex Shop Accessories

October 27, 2016 by loxandleather 8 Comments

If you’re scared to enter a sex shop for fear of walls of dildos and a creepy manager, you shouldn’t be.

Well, as long as you’re going to the right sex shops.

One sex shop I really love is Lady Love on South Street in Philadelphia. They always have an amazing selection of lingerie, shoes, and accessories. Plus all the toys are upstairs, so you don’t have to face 12″ dildos if you don’t want to.

I popped in there the other week and although I wanted everything, I figured I would limit myself to something on the less expensive side and something I would get a lot of use out of. So, I bought this killer spiked choker ($30) and fishnet top ($15). They also had those rhinestone chokers that everyone is wearing these days, but the nice one was $60, and I wasn’t trying to spend that at the time.

I had been looking for a spiked choker like this for a while ever since I lost the one I had from Claire’s in the third grade (RIP). Even though this one is kind of big on me, I like that it’s well made from real leather.

As for the top, it’s so versatile. This look was super simple, but I’ve also worn it under t-shirts, under a silk bra-let top (check it on my Instagram) and if you’re feeling really sexy you could def rock a bra underneath…or pasties for a rave type look.

Another sex shop that has really cool bodysuit type lingerie is The Pleasure Chest. If you’re still not down to do in-person sex shop visits, definitely check out Yandy for the lacy type bodysuits that are in right now at a fraction of the price. I just ordered a couple myself which I’ll be sharing on the site soon. But in the mean time, check out how I styled these two new pieces…

Fishnets Have Quickly Become Pretty Mainstream

September 13, 2016 by loxandleather 2 Comments

Just like Metallica and heavy metal T-shirts, fishnets have suddenly become trendy.

I’m all for it, because I’ll take any excuse to dress like the emo chick that I truly am. But it’s can still be a challenge to incorporate the fishnets into a daily look without looking like a dominatrix or an extra from a punk-rock music video.

I attempted to wear an old pair of fishnets with a casual outfit, but I’m not sure it really worked for me. Since taking these pics, I’ve figured out how to wear fishnets a little more successfully (or so I think).

Regardless, here’s this look anyways. Let me know what you think of it in the comments section!
