If you’re looking for an honest Crown Goose duvet review, you’re in the market for a new duvet cover, or simply interested in all things bedding-related, you’ve come to the right place!
If you’ve been following along on my Instagram stories lately, you may have noticed that my life has revolved around furnishing my new apartment.
If you haven’t been following along (and that’s okay, I get that you have a life), here’s a recap:
- I moved to LA (read about that here)
- I found an awesome 1 bedroom apartment (well, aside from the constant maintenance issues I’ve been having)
- I’m furnishing my apartment from scratch because I moved to LA with just clothes and shoes, basically
I got the very, very essential items from IKEA and Amazon: mattress (zero regrets about buying this cheap mattress off Amazon, BTW), bed frame, plates, cups, etc.
I also got a comforter from IKEA, just this basic white one, because I knew I’d be getting a duvet cover from Crown Goose.
Crown Goose gifted me a duvet cover — I chose the Duvet Cover Set Spoor Collection in Ivory White, and I’m going to give you an honest review about what I think of it!
Before I get into the bullet-points (if you’re looking for those, just keep scrolling), you might be wondering, what’s the point of a duvet?
And I don’t blame you, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of duvets is this awful situation I had in college where my comforter always bunched up at the bottom of my leopard print duvet — leaving me with a very uneven ratio of comforter to body warmth.
But, if you actually wash your comforter (which, admittedly, I probably only did in college when I puked on it), having a duvet is extremely clutch.
Case in point: last week I came home one night, sat on my bed around 8 PM ready to get into it, and noticed there was a giant wet spot on the left side of my bed. It was mostly clear with a slightly yellow ring around it. Great.
I later found out that it was my upstairs’ neighbors dishwasher leaking, but regardless, I had to wash everything to get that ugly stain out.
However, I also had to go to sleep relatively soon (okay I didn’t have to, but I wanted to because I’m the kind of person that needs 8 hours), so I didn’t want to stay up late washing my comforter, etc. right then — especially because I sleep on the other side of the bed.
So, I just took the duvet off, hand-washed it, hung it over my shower to dry, and soaked up the rest of the stain.
Then, over the weekend when I had more time, I was able to wash the IKEA comforter and sheets.
And miraculously, the duvet protected the IKEA comforter from any staining.
Regardless of washing situations (although as an adult they should always be a concern), a nice duvet can also seriously dress up your $40 IKEA comforter.
Here are some other pros, cons, and things to know about this Crown Goose Duvet Cover.
The Good:
- The duvet cover seems to be made in a way that the comforter inside doesn’t slip and slide around too much. I haven’t had to deal with any uneven bunching.
- The duvet was also easy to put in and easy to fasten — previous duvet covers I’ve had hid the buttons so well that I couldn’t even find them when I wanted to
- It’s truly amazing how the duvet cover immediately made, not just my bed, but my entire room look way nicer than it did with the IKEA comforter.
- The duvet cover comes with matching pillowcases, so that you can get a uniform look (apparently most sheet sets also come with matching pillowcases, so now I have about six pillowcases since I use satin pillowcases for my hair).
- The duvet is comfy! People always think I’m crazy for buying my mattress, or comforter, or couch online — but TBH I don’t even know what I’m looking for when I’m buying these things in person, so I’m happy to report that this set is very comfortable to sleep on
The Bad:
- The duvet sort of came accompanied by a smell. Almost like a “new car smell,” but for duvets.
- The duvet is still pricey. The set I got, for a queen, retails for $240.50 — which is nearly what I paid for my mattress. For comparison, you can get a queen duvet cover at West Elm for around $170.
The Good to Know:
- Everyone on Instagram and in home decor inspo pics (which I also view on Instagram) seems to have white bedding these days, so naturally I got white bedding, too. I immediately regretted this decision. With a duvet, it’s not so bad because it’s easy to wash and I usually have the sheets in between, but I am probably going to end up getting a different color sheets instead of the white ones I currently have (I got my current set from Target and they’re super comfy though — just not ideal for self-tanner).
- I personally don’t love that their logo is visible on the duvet and pillowcases, but I generally dislike branding in general.
I know this blog post is a bit specific, but I hope if you’re looking for a duvet cover, furnishing an apartment, or were specifically looking for a Crown Goose review I hope you find it helpful! You can buy my exact set — the Duvet Cover Set Sopor Collection in Ivory — here.
I think I may start doing some more home-decor focused things on the blog as I keep getting my spot set up, so let me know if you’d be into that and what you wanna see!
P.S. I’m obsessed with these blue light glasses from Quay Australia — you can get them here.
