These Bike Shorts From Amazon Are Going To Save My Life This Summer

June 7, 2018 by loxandleather No Comments

We all remember when Kim Kardashian started trying to make bike shorts a thing, right?

Well, okay, maybe you don’t, but I do because at the time I was working at Galore Media and my co-worker Maria Pasquini was on the case.

At the time, it seemed bizarre, but also genius. After all, bike shorts are kind of just a shorter version of the yoga pants/capris that people already wear to everywhere but the gym.

I thought it was kind of great, and I even wrote a guide to how to wear bike shorts for Galore here, but it took me some time to actually incorporate them into my own wardrobe.

I tried buying a pair of bike shorts online from Forever 21 (I think it was this pair), but something about them just didn’t feel sexy when I tried them on. It might’ve been that the fabric was actually too thick for me. Or, it might have just been that it was so early in the bike shorts trend cycle that I didn’t feel ready to rock them yet.

Either way, over a year later I decided to try again, because I am seriously lacking in the “casual” summer bottoms department. And I actually found an amazing pair on Amazon.

Lo, and behold, my new favorite bike shorts…

They’re actually more expensive than the pair I got from Forever ($15 vs. $4), but they’re definitely worth it in my opinion. The fabric is more of a jersey stretch knit, so it moves with your  body and is tight without squeezing you in the wrong places. I got them in red (shocker), but they have black and most other colors available.

These have been the perfect shorts to bring along with me as I’ve been traveling the past month, because they go with a lot of my tops and are perfect for days where I’m going to be walking around a lot and want to be comfy.

And, as we’ve seen from Kim K, bike shorts can be dressed up for night time, or dressed down for during the day (which is more what I went for here, clearly).

Anyway, hope you or someone you know snags these bike shorts! I’m currently in Vegas sweating my butt off, so I have a feeling these shorts will come in handy 🙂

Which Bedazzled Lingerie Set Fits Your Summer Mood?

May 31, 2018 by loxandleather No Comments
sm bedazzled lingerie set dolls kill loxandleather cover

You probably don’t have “bedazzled lingerie set” on your summer shopping list, and neither did I…until Dolls Kill released three slightly different iterations that had me thinking I needed one (or three).

I’m helping you decide which one you need based on your summer 18 mood, and also giving my feedback on the sizing, fabric, price, etc! Read on to get the dirty deets + see how I styled it.

Which Bedazzled Lingerie Set Fits Your Summer 18 Mood?

And yes, you can technically get more than one…

1. For The Girl Who Wants To Feel Blessed

bedazzled lingerie pray for me cross dolls kill loxandleather

Poster Grl Pray For Me Cross Lingerie Set, $28

Chances are, if you’re buying this bikini you don’t actually go to church and pray. (Spoiler alert: I own it and I’m not even Christian). But, that doesn’t mean you don’t believe there’s some sort of higher power that’s going to ensure all the bad decisions you make this summer are going to turn out just fine and/or at least not ruin your life. If you’re needing a little extra luck (or just a thotty guardian angel) this summer, consider this set your lifeline.

2. For The Girl Who Needs Money, Not Boys

Poster Grl Cash Only Lingerie Set, $28

If your summer is going to be less chasing around bros in salmon-colored shorts (gross) and more stacking your paper, this is the option for you. What better way to remind yourself that money is the only thing getting close to your heart and/or your lady parts this summer than with this cute bedazzled lingerie set?

3. For The Girl Who Plans On Keeping It Somewhat Classy

Poster Grl X Marks The Spot Lingerie Set, $32

Wow, you can get sexual too, but that doesn’t mean you need to alert every single one of your Instagram followers about it. Maybe you’ll rock this bedazzled lingerie look at a music festival or under a black mesh turtleneck with PVC pants, or maybe you’ll only wear it for that special someone behind closed doors. Either way, your summer is looking like more yacht trips and less bonfires in someones mom’s backyard. Cheers!

My Review:

First off, I’m actually glad I purchased the cross-bedazzled lingerie option before the other two were released, because I know that I would’ve had a tough time choosing. Although, I’m a bit confused why the “X” option is a tad more expensive than the other two.

Regardless, when I received the set I was actually surprised to find that it wasn’t an actual bikini. I’m pretty sure when it was first listed, it was listed as a bikini and not lingerie, but oh well, probably explains why it was so cheap.

I got an XS and still felt that the bottom was a bit big, or maybe just meant for someone taller. You can definitely size down if you’re in between sizes. The top was fine. It’s definitely got zero support though, due to the cotton fabric.

The embellishments seem pretty legit, which I know is always a concern of mine with fast-fashion stuff that’s rhinestone-encrusted. I’ve worn mine about three times so far, hand-washed it once, and had no issues.

While it might be a bit risque to be your go-to summer look, for the price I feel like this set can work its way into your festival lewks, night out ‘fits, and basically anytime you’re trying to get some Vitamin D. If you’re looking for tips on how to rock lingerie as outerwear, check out my other blog post about it!

Here’s some more pics of how I styled it:

How To Wear Lingerie Out of The House Without Feeling Like an Idiot

April 26, 2018 by loxandleather 2 Comments

Wondering how to wear lingerie out of the house without feeling like an idiot? I’ve got you covered with tips, tricks, and some cute pieces that will totally work with your regular wardrobe.

how to wear lingerie loxandleather eglux5

How To Wear Lingerie Out of The House Without Feeling Like an Idiot

1. Pair It With Heavy Pieces

At first thought, you might want to pair your pretty lacy teddy with a mesh robe, some delicate sandals, or some silky pants. While that wouldn’t be a bad look by any means, it’ll definitely amp up the “I just walked out of my sugar daddy’s bedroom” factor, which might not be what you’re going for!

Instead, pair your lingerie piece of choice with something “heavy” — a.k.a chunky boots, thick fabrics (think leather, denim, wool), and pieces with lots of hardware. It’ll bridge the gap and make your delicate lingerie more street-style appropriate.

2. Add Something Distressed

Another good fashion juxtaposition to your pretty lil’ lingerie is something that looks like it was stolen from the dumpster.

Okay, maybe that’s extreme, but you get what I’m saying. A distressed denim jacket, a frayed jean skirt, maybe even one of those ridiculous “vintage” tees cropped up to your neck — the options are endless!

3. Do Not Wear a Bra, For the Love of God

If you wear a Victoria’s Secret push up bra under your lace bralette, everyone is going to think you’re 17 and trying to get into DayGlow.

C’mon, one of the most awesome things about style right now is that boobs of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to fly free! Don’t ruin pretty lingerie with a painful underwire contraption underneath. If you really feel like your ladies need a lift (and I’m sure they don’t), try some discreet sticky boobs.

4. Own It!

Okay, let’s be real, the biggest concern we all have when thinking about how to wear lingerie out of the house is: are people going to think I’m a thot?

The second concern we may have is: am I going to get harassed by random men on the street more than normal?

Both are very valid concerns, but they both go back to owning your look and adopting a DGAF attitude. If you walk down the street looking confident and your face says “don’t fuck with me,” chances are, people won’t (aside from maybe that one dude who’ll tell you to smile).

People always come up to me and say stuff like, “OMG, I love your outfit! I could never pull that off!” And while I appreciate the compliment, it’s not true! The only reason I can pull it off is because I decided I could! And that’s a decision only you can make for yourself!

Anyway, I’m going to hop off my soapbox and tell you where to get this bodysuit and other cute ones to rock this summer…

Here’s a link to the bodysuit I’m wearing, by EG Lux.

And here are some other hot af lingerie pieces that you could totally purchase with the sole purpose of wearing out:

1. Can’t Trust Me Lace Bodysuit, $45, Dolls Kill

This is one of those pieces that will actually probably look better on someone with smaller boobies, so please go get this on my behalf!

2. Sex Therapy Bralette, $28, Dolls Kill

For obvious reasons, this is on my wishlist. It would look great under a black mesh bodysuit or with a black denim skirt + jean jacket combo.

3. Black Mesh Pineapple Bodysuit, Missguided, $34

If you’re obsessed with red and hearts like me, I recommend this version, but I feel like for most of you, the black, fruity version is more wearable. The pineapples make it more “fun” than “bedroom-y,” if you feel me? If you’re hesitant on how to wear lingerie out, this could be a good starter piece.

4. Gagaopt Sexy Lace Bodysuit, $13.99, Amazon

I’ll never knock some quality Amazon lingerie, and this piece’s ratings are stellar. Look at the model even taking my distressed tip to heart <3

5. Stunner Net and Lace Teddy, Yandy, $30Stunner Net and Lace Teddy

Alright so I have an extremely similar bodysuit from Yandy in both black and red because I loved it so much. I wear both all the time (the black one legit goes with everything), and Yandy’s shipping is so fast! If you’re going to buy just one lacy bodysuit, I’d recommend this one.

Band Merch Shorts: Wear Your Favorite Band On Your Booty

April 19, 2018 by loxandleather No Comments
band merch shorts loxandleather backbite

Band tees are so 2017. Why not rock a pair of band merch shorts this summer?

This post is all about band merch shorts….

Band tees were peak basic last summer. Or, as my old editor so lovely coined it: bedgy.

It’s tragic for those of you who, like me, have been treating band tees as wardrobe staples ever since you discovered Fuse and/or Avril Lavigne.

While I’d never stop wearing one of my go-to pieces for fear of looking basic/bedgy, I can’t deny that whenever I throw on a band tee before leaving the house, I can’t help but wonder if my peers on the Subway think I bought my The Cure tee at Forever 21 (I didn’t, but I can’t pretend I haven’t bought band tees at Forever 21 back in high school that I still wear today).

At the same time, you never want to be that girl (okay, but 99% of the time it’s a guy) that approaches the chick wearing a Metallica shirt and says, “Oh, you like Metallica? Well then what is James Hetfield’s zodiac sign?”

But, if you’re down to wear your favorite band on your sleeve — why not consider wearing them on another item of clothing so as to stand out from every other girl at [insert music festival here]?

What I’m saying is to wear your favorite band on your ass, basically.

loxandleather backbite review 4

I mean honestly, you think I’d ever shy away from the chance to wear Jim Morrison’s face right on my lady parts?! You clearly don’t know me very well.

I got this sweet pair of band merch shorts at a little site called Get Bad Vibes in 2014, and they’re still cranking out band merch shorts today, although they appear to have rebranded under the name “Backbite.”

The cool thing is that each pair of shorts is made from a real band tee, and handmade especially for you. They used to be made from “vintage” t-shirts so each pair was one of a kind, but looking at their site now it looks like they might be working from more mass produced shirts. Either way, they’re still not mainstream enough that you’re likely to run into someone wearing the same pair.

In terms of how I bought my shorts and how the sizing/quality/etc. is (essentially a Backbite review) here are the deets:

I’d been following them for a while back in 2014 and had been waiting for them to finally release a pair of shorts with a band I listened to regularly so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the aforementioned dude calling me out on the fact that I don’t actually listen to Motörhead on a daily basis. Immediately after they listed this pair for pre-order, I said goodbye to my $80 and patiently waited for a month to get them.

Side note: if you’ve been following me for a bit you know I have an obsession with The Doors and have way too much of their merch.

Unfortunately, when I got the shorts, I realized they were super tiny (I had ordered a Small, even though I normally wear an XS). Since they were made from a unique t-shirt, it’s not like I could exchange them for another size. I rocked them maybe once or twice with opaque black tights underneath to tone down the scandy factor, and then demoted them to a beach/pool cover-up.

Thankfully, the one good thing about losing a little weight recently is that these shorts are slightly more acceptable on my body now (R.I.P booty though). That’s not to say I didn’t get weird looks while traipsing around in this outfit at 12 PM on a Monday in downtown LA, but I’m honestly used to that by this point.

If you are in between sizes, I’d definitely recommend sizing up! If you’re tall/have long legs/a big booty, I’d definitely recommend sizing up!

When in doubt: measure yourself and check the measurements! You’ll never regret doing it and you’ll be able to use those measurements for future online purchases!

In terms of the quality, I’ve had mine for about four years now and I haven’t seen any sides of fading/ripping/pilling, but then again I haven’t been wearing them super often until recently. They have nice stretch at the waist without losing their shape, but the thigh hems don’t leave a ton of room for stretch. They’re t-shirt material, so they’re super comfy — great for summer days where you want to wear gym shorts but don’t want to look like a slob!

Anyway, here are some more pics of how they look on me and how I styled them:
