8 Gifts For Your Boyfriend That Are Way Cooler Than Anything His Ex Got Him

December 15, 2020 by loxandleather No Comments

It’s always so easy to spot an ex-girlfriend gift.

I remember when an ex and I reunited after being apart for about six months, I noticed he had a new Ridge wallet and immediately knew that meant he was seeing someone else in the interim. I was also like, “Nice wallet, I could’ve gotten you one for free because I worked with them.”

A guy I was dating this past summer had a small tapestry with a photo of his dog’s face on it in his bedroom. I commented on it and he showed me that he had a pair of socks with his other dog’s face on it. I laughed before he told me that his ex-wife got them for him. All I said was, “I know.”

He asked how I knew, and I don’t quite know how to describe it, but to me it’s always so obvious. Guys definitely don’t take the time to make personalized accessories for themselves, and most also aren’t super keen on picking out their own clothing and accessories. Sure, they could receive these items as gifts from friends or family, but I don’t know many dudes that exchange gifts beyond a case of beer or a trip to Vegas.

Anyway, I originally planned on writing that intro to welcome a list of gift ideas that wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb in your dude’s apartment with a flashing sign that said “my ex got this for me,” but then I realized that pretty much anything you get a dude (aside from maybe a PS5) will look that way because girls are simply better at picking things out than men are for themselves. Sorry?

Regardless, here are 8 gifts for your boyfriend that are way cooler than anything his ex got him.

1. A good pair of joggers

Alphalete Premium Pro-Elite Jogger, Silver Camo, $72

If you thought athleisure was having a moment pre-COVID, it’s truly taken over now. My Quarantine boo back in March wanted a good pair of joggers that was comfy, and made to fit someone with muscle. I asked my Instagram followers for their recommendations and they suggested Alphalete.

They were a hit. I think he ended up buying them in four colors. Alphalete also just released a women’s line that my little sister says are the most flattering shorts/leggings she’s tried ever (and she’s tried a lot), so maybe snag something for yourself too.

2. A monthly scent subscription so you can choose his new cologne together

Scentbird, $14.95/month

A nice cologne is a go-to girlfriend gift for her man. Because first, cologne is actually kind of expensive. And second, you can pick out a scent that you like. If you want to be a little less basic (and a little more fun), get your man a Scentbird subscription. That way, he (and you) can try a new scent each month to figure out what you both like. The only downside is if you ever break up, instead of having one scent that reminds you of your ex, you’ll have 12.

3. A unique watch that’s way cooler than a Rolex

Carpenter Watches M22 Brooklyn Field, $625

If you’re going to get your man a watch, you want it to be a nice watch. But, you’re probably not balling out on a Rolex or an Audemars Piguet.

For something (relatively) affordable, but still super chic and unique, check out Carpenter Watches.

The Brooklyn-based small business offers a curated collection of watches with a vintage-inspired classic look that will stand the test of time. My favorite is the M22 Brooklyn Field because the face is ever-so-slightly navy. It looks black most of the time, but surprises you with a navy hue when the light hits it right. They also offer custom engraving and cool watch accessories like leather cases.

4. Something that makes manscaping a bit easier down there

The Perfect Package 3.0 + Peak Hygiene Plan, $89.99

Okay, I realize that getting a ball trimmer + skincare kit isn’t quite as cool as a PS5, but my ex literally asked for an electric razor for Christmas last year, so I can’t be that crazy.

This package also comes with a subscription service which delivers replacement blades every three months (because you know your man would probably forget otherwise). This is also a passive aggressive way to tell your dude that he needs to pay a bit more attention to his hygiene down there. But look on the positive side, if he actually uses this gift, it also probably means more (and better) blowjobs all 2021!

BUY IT HERE

5. A quarantine-activity that’ll make you both hot

Hot Sauce Making Kit, $64.95

If you and your dude have been stuck in the house since March and need something to spice things up (pun intended—sorry I’m so corny), this hot sauce making kit sounds like the perfect stay-home activity. And it ships Prime in case you waited until the last minute.

BUY IT HERE

6. Or a more chilled out quarantine activity

100 Movies Scratch Off Poster, $25

This is arguably the most girlfriend-y gift ever. Like, if I walked into a guy’s house and he had this hanging on his wall I’d be like, “damn you watched all those movies with your ex? Sounds like a fun relationship.” But, I included it in this list because COVID. Wouldn’t you feel more accomplished if you got to basically check off an item on this poster every time you watched a movie? It’s like the easiest to-do list ever.

BUY IT HERE

7. Jeans that feel like joggers

Diesel KROOLEY JoggJeans® 069RA, $348 (currently on sale for $212)

If your man is good on joggers but you still wanna go the comfy pants route, get him pants that look like nice jeans but feel like joggers. Diesel JoggJeans® are expensive, but worth the $$$ (especially if you can snag them on sale). If you’re dating a dude with muscular legs or a big booty that has trouble finding jeans that fit right, I highly recommend these.

BUY THEM HERE

8. Lube, but for his beard

Jack Black Beard Lube, $11-35

This is a cute stocking stuffer idea if you’re dating a bearded babe. It’s also a great passive aggressive way to say, “I know you’re still riding out no-shave November, but your wiry beard is irritating my face when we kiss.” It comes in multiple sizes so you can choose how much you wanna spend/gift. Also, in my experience, guys f-ing love this brand.

9 Vegan Gifts For Her (That She Actually Wants)

December 7, 2020 by loxandleather No Comments
vegan gifts for her elevate

Looking to buy a gift for a vegan gal that’s glam, boujie, and always up on the latest trends? Here are 9 vegan gifts for her that she’ll totally love (especially if she has similar taste to me).

This morning I got a text from my little sister asking where she could order a vegan-friendly holiday treat for her friend. “I sent all my other friends popcorn from the Popcorn Factory, but this friend is vegan,” my sister explained.

I recommended Root Nine Baking Co., which I have yet to try but looks amazing and ships cookies worldwide. I would happily accept a gift from here for the holidays.

If you, like my sister, have a vegan lady in your life and are wondering what’s on her wish list, here are a couple ideas—from snacks and cooking tools, to cruelty-free beauty, to reusable water bottles and swimsuits made from recycled plastic.

1. Cruelty-free lashes that are as luxurious as mink

Amber Magnetic Lashes & Liner Kit, $55.95 (ON SALE)

I’ve been on a magnetic lash kick ever since I tried Glamnetic lashes for a Galore article earlier this year—but I found a brand I like even better. Lola’s Lashes offer luxury magnetic lash sets that come with one set of lashes, magnetic liner, and liner remover (because magnetic liner is difficult to get off with regular makeup remover). Once you get the set, you can buy additional lashes separately.

Honestly, these sets are so nice you could probably gift one without even wrapping it. And these lashes stay on better than any I’ve tried!

2. A monthly snack subscription box

Elevate Vegan Snack Box

Good vegan snacks can be hard to find. This small business based in LA ships 12-20 (depending on which box you choose) vegan and gluten-free snacks to you or your loved ones. You can also purchase a subscription so the person you gift receives a new box each month.

SHOP NOW USE CODE: ASH10 for 10% off one box!

3. A wardrobe rental membership

RESA Teenie Mini rented on Fashionpass

I’ve had a Fashionpass membership for nearly two years now, and I still repeatedly sing its praises (read my full review here). Your vegan friend will love the sustainability benefits of “renting” clothes, and her wardrobe (and insta-game) will get a major upgrade.

SHOP NOW – USE CODE: ASHLEYGIOV for 30% off your first month

4. A cute kitchen tool

vegan gifts for her rice cooker

Dash Mini Rice Cooker/Steamer, $19.99

Want to get your vegan friend a gift they’ll actually use? A rice cooker or air fryer is definitely the way to go. And how cute is this one in pink?

Since most of us are cooking more than usual, either of these tools will def help your vegan friend out. My rice cooker changed my life, and I love my mini one because I cook for one person, so the mini size is perfect for prepping a week’s worth of meals.

5. Vegan makeup that’s anything but basic

Servin’ Looks Set, $40

Estate makeup’s products are always 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and they offer tons of off-the-wall colors (think purple metallic lipsticks) so that vegan doesn’t have to mean boring or neutral-toned.

SHOP NOW USE CODE: ASHLEYGIOV for 15% OFF

6. A trendy, reusable water bottle

Healthish WB-1 Bottle, $30 (Currently on sale for $25)

You might be like, “girls really want water bottles for Christmas?” And yes, yes they do. Nice water bottles are expensive. I have been pretty loyal to my S’well bottle in the last few years, but this Healthish Glass Water Bottle is so aesthetically pleasing and perfect for someone who needs help getting in enough water each day.

7. A luxury swimsuit made from recycled materials

Dahlia One Piece in Black, $148

Hear me out: sexy swimwear that’s made from discarded fishing nets.

RAWA Swimwear makes going green look good. Their suits are ethically produced made with ECONYL, a 100% regenerated nylon that’s made from pre- and post-industrial waste. Not sure if it’s the fabric or just the quality, but these suits are comfy AF!

SHOP NOW Use code: ASHLEYGIOV15 for 15% off

8. A meal delivery service

Herb And Seed LA

For a while, all I wanted for Christmas was a week’s worth of meals from Sakara Life, a vegan meal-delivery service that all your favorite VS angels swear by. But Sakara is ridiculously pricey (even for a boujie bitch like me), and I couldn’t find a more affordable, comparable quality substitute anywhere—until now!

Herb and Seed is an LA-based vegan meal delivery service that launched six months ago. They offer breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at a very affordable rate for those living in the LA area. To give you an idea, if you eat three meals a day, you can get four day’s worth of meals for about $170 (Sakara Life is about $400 or so in comparison).

Herb and Seed are also focused on sustainability by running a zero waste kitchen, and using compostable delivery products.

Oh, and the meal options are fab! They offer tons of gluten-free and soy-free options if like me you try to avoid those types of foods. I’ve just started trying their offerings, and it’s definitely restaurant quality food (not like those boring rice, broccoli, and tofu dishes you see in typical vegan meal delivery services).

9. A cheeky t-shirt for the naughty vegan

vegan-gifts-for-her-etsy
Graphic T-Shirt, $18.90

Not every vegan girl would wear this, but if you know me than you know I totally would…

My Honest Tiger Mist Review – From a US Shopper

November 25, 2020 by loxandleather 5 Comments

Looking for a real, honest Tiger Mist review before you purchase all the cute stuff in your shopping cart? Happy to help.

This summer, I was on the quest for the perfect sundress. While I don’t actually know what a sundress is (and I know guys who claim to love them don’t either), what I had in mind was something lightweight, fitted and flattering but not too tight, and made in a bright summer color or some type of floral (but not too girly). Something I could throw on that would be cute and comfy for running errands or hitting a day party.

My friend Priyal suggested I check out Tiger Mist (not to be confused with Tiger Beat, the magazine I used to read as a tween).

Tiger Mist is an Australia-based e-tailer founded by two sisters. Lots of bigger brands stock their product (I think I’ve seen their stuff on Dolls Kill), but I ordered directly from the site.

Their clothes are your standard fast-fashion, trendy, IG-ready pieces. I would compare them to Meshki or Oh Polly in terms of their styles, but they have an in-house design team so you won’t see anything too similar to other stores.

What I Bought:

tiger mist review loxandleather 2

Nixie Dress – Yellow (size XS)

Mirabelle Dress – Red (size XS)

Photo: @luciidvizual

Daffodil Dress – Red (size XS)

The Good:

  • The quality of everything I bought was really solid. Fabric wasn’t thin, sleeves were sturdy, and zippers were secure.
  • Prices are good too, especially for the quality. (make sure you’re on the US site to avoid price confusion)
  • The sizing felt very accurate to me, although I’d definitely size up if you’re in between sizes (read: not vanity sizing). I ordered everything in an XS and things were very tailored and snug. In other brands (Revolve, Dolls Kill, etc.) I tend to order an XXS and things are sometimes still a little loose.

The Bad:

  • Like many brands, sizing wasn’t perfectly consistent across items. I probably could have worn an XXS in the Nixie Dress, as it was a little bigger than I wanted in the bust area. However, in the Mirabelle dress there’s no way I could’ve worn an XXS.
  • They don’t accept returns of swimwear bottoms or lingerie, and you pay 15 AUD (~$11) to return items. Luckily, I didn’t return anything so I didn’t have to deal with this.

I hope this Tiger Mist review was helpful to you! Feel free to let me know any questions you may have in the comments section.
