A beginner’s guide to buying your first sex toy

February 3, 2022 by loxandleather No Comments
beginners-guide-buying your first sex toy

Self-care has turned into a commercialized excuse for going shopping. But, I think there’s some merit to it. Self-care is remembering to treat yourself, shower love on yourself the way you would on a partner, be patient with yourself like you would with a friend, etc., etc.

When it comes to pleasure, self-care means pleasuring yourself the way you would pleasure a lover. Pull out all the stops. Worship your body, set the mood (I know you’ve bought those expensive candles for #selfcare), and make yourself feel good.

And yet, while most of the women in my circles are happy to engage in casual sex with semi-strangers, so many of them are unfamiliar with the idea of having sex with themselves. But, that’s not their fault—it’s the patriarchy! So basically, in order to fight the patriarchy, I need every woman to buy themselves a sex toy. Or, for self-care purposes, whichever excuse sounds better to you. Here’s how to do it.

1. Analyze Your Orgasm

Think about the last orgasm you had with a partner (or if you’ve never had an orgasm, think about the last time you really felt good during sex). Was your partner sucking on your clitoris? Were you being penetrated from behind? Think long and hard (pun intended) about what kind of movements or actions your body enjoys. This will help you determine what kind of toy you may enjoy as well.

2. Do Your Research

Once you’re armed with the knowledge of what you like, it’s time to see what kind of toys can give you that pleasure. Here’s a rough list of four basic toy categories to start with:

Vibrators: For vibrational pleasure

This is probably the most common and popular toy category for people with vaginas. Some vibrators are made to be put inside of you, and some are meant to be held against your clit, nipples, etc. Many vibrators can be used on both areas—and you can feel free to get creative (a vibrator can totally double as a massage wand after a particularly grueling gym sesh).

If you like vibes, try The Bumpy Ride, $56 (USE ASHLEY 25 for 25% OFF)

Dildos: For receiving penetrative pleasure

While most women don’t orgasm from penetration alone, some do! Or, some women prefer both penetrative and clitoral stimulation to reach the big “O” (in my opinion, doing both helps mimic the feelings your body has during partnered sex). Dildos are a pretty basic sex toy if you want one that doesn’t vibrate. They also make double-headed dildos for double penetration, or you can try a rabbit vibrator (have you seen that episode of Sex And The City?) which is a dildo with an attachment that hits your clit effortlessly. Most standard dildos have a suction at the bottom, so you can stick it to your floor and get on top, or stick it to your wall and back up on it. This leaves your hands free for other fun activities!

If you like dildos, try The Semi-Sweet Tart, $39(USE ASHLEY 25 for 25% OFF)

Suction Toys: For clitoral pleasure

Do you get your rocks off the most when your partner is giving you head? Then you’ll probably want a suction-type toy that mimics the motion of someone licking or sucking on your clitoris. Some toys, like the one I’ve linked below, also have a penetrative attachment that you can choose to use if you’d like.

If you like clitoral sucking, try The Flick It, $71(USE ASHLEY 25 for 25% OFF)

Masturbator Cup/Strokers: For people with penises who like to penetrate!

Although admittedly, I’ve mostly written this article for the ladies, I won’t neglect people with penises! If you feel best when you’re sticking your junk into someone else’s junk, you should probably try a toy that falls in the category of masturbator cups/strokers. You might know these as “pocket pussys” but I hate that name and think it carries too much stigma—nobody should be ashamed about using sex toys!

If you like penetrating, try The Vortex(USE ASHLEY 25 for 25% OFF)

3. When In Doubt, Start With The Basics

If all of the toys I just listed made you even more intimidated, don’t stress. I think a vibrator would be a great starting point for any girl (or person TBH). Try this “Under the Radar” vibrator as a starter toy. While it’s designed for potential partner play (think the vibrating panty scene from The Ugly Truth), it definitely can be just as enjoyable with solo play. I think this toy is especially great for beginner’s because of the shape—you could totally just place this toy on your bed and then sit on it in whatever way feels good, so you can have your hands free! It’s also water-proof and designed to be discreet (aka quiet), which is always nice if you have roommates and prefer to play in the shower for privacy reasons.

BUY THE UNDER THE RADAR TOY

4. Accessorize

Even if you’ve got a WAP, silicone and synthetic materials work differently in/on your body than human skin. If you’re dabbling in penetration (whether giving or receiving) you might want to purchase some lube. Warming lube is nice because sometimes toys can feel cold (since there’s no body heat behind them).

If you’re new to masturbating, or looking for a 2022 refresh to your routine, I think self-pleasure should be just as exciting as partnered pleasure. Buy yourself some fancy lingerie, nipple clamps, a silk robe, whatever will make you feel sexy and enhance the experience. You deserve it!

5. Try Things On For Size

Think of your sex toy journey kind of like your dating journey—you might deal with a few duds. You don’t have to commit to the first vibrator you buy if it’s way too intense for you. Feel free to try out different toys to see what your body responds to. Just because your best friend swears by one toy doesn’t mean it’s going to be a fit for you! If you’re still struggling to find what works, head to your local sex-positive sex shop (you can find one near you at progressivepleasureclub.com) and have an expert help you pick one out!

8 Activewear Stores That Sell XXS Clothing And Size 00 Leggings

January 22, 2021 by loxandleather 2 Comments

Looking for size xxs clothing for the gym? I gotchu covered.

If you’re working out your booty at the gym (or even just running to Whole Foods for an overpriced juice), you wanna be like Bubba Sparxxx on Ms. New Booty and “get it right, get it tight.”

Unfortunately, it’s hard to get it right + tight if you can’t find leggings that hug your waist, booty, and suck everything in for that compression effect that leggings are supposed to give you. As someone who typically wears a size XXS, or 00, I noticed that it was more difficult than it should be to find leggings that really fit me as tight as I wanted them to. So, I’m compiling a list of brands that sell XXS clothing that I can personally recommend based on experience.

1. Ultracor

Not only does Ultracor offer size XXS clothing, they also offer the cutest damn prints in their workout gear. I just about died when I saw this cherry workout set. Unfortunately, they don’t offer it anymore, but they have tons of other fun, but still sleek prints + styles.

These leggings are definitely a true XXS. They honestly feels a wee bit tight on me, especially when I first am putting them on. They also include built-in undies which sort of adds to the tightness of it all.

1. Women’s Best

A post shared by Ashley (@ashleygiov)

This is probably my favorite brand from this list. A friend of mine, Vicky Justiz, partnered with this brand when they launched their activewear. When I saw that they had a bright red matching set, I knew I had to have it. I DMed Vicky about sizing, and she assured me that their sizes were super tight and form-fitting on her, and I know our sizes are similar.

Their shipping does take some time because they’re based in Austria. I ordered my first package on Black Friday and I think it legit took over a month to arrive, but it was worth it when I received it. My leggings from Women’s Best are probably one of the most flattering pairs I own IMO, I also like their bike shorts and long-sleeve crop tops.

You can see me in their apparel in this booty workout video I made. I’m wearing a size XS, and it fits similar to an XXS would in other brands that run larger (EG: Alo, Bandier).

3. Bo and Tee

Speed Seamless High Waisted Shorts in Orange, on sale for $19

If you’ve shopped at Oh Polly before (read my review here), you might guess that their activewear brand, Bo and Tee, probably also runs small. I should have known this, but I was so scarred from activewear running large that I ordered an XXS anyway, and woo-wee is this set tight on me!

It’s still wearable, and it looks cute in photos (please confirm below), but sometimes I feel a bit like a sausage in it. I ordered another set from them last month and got it in an XS instead, it fit way more flattering on me!

SHOP NOW

4. Daniel Patrick

While Daniel Patrick doesn’t technically offer size XXS clothing, their size XS definitely fits like a size XXS as their products run small. I got an adorable neon orange set from them and it barely fits over my boobs and also gives me a bit of a camel toe, but it gets the job done. If I was to order again I’d probably size up.

SHOP NOW

5. Girlfriend Collective

Black Compressive High Rise Leggings, $68

Gotta love some ethically made activewear, especially when it comes in size XXS. These leggings are made from water bottles, they’re super soft and comfy, and they fit snug without being too tight to be worn for non-active activities like jet-setting or working from home.

SHOP NOW

6. Terez

Torch’d x Terez Tie Dye Bike Short, $78

Terez is another brand that not only offers size xxs clothing, but also offers super fun prints. I got these adorable neon flame print shorts from their collab with Torch’d, and a size XS actually worked fine on me because they didn’t offer XXS in this collab. However, if you need a true XXS, they offer neon snakeskin, paint splatters, shooting stars, lots of leopard, and tons of other fun prints in their leggings.

Use my code ASHLEYG15 for 15% off your order!

SHOP NOW

7. Halara

Cloud 9 Super High Rise ⅞ Seamless Camo Leggings, $39.95

Halara is like Terez in that they offer size XXS clothing (or 2XS on their site), but a size XS worked for me just fine. Their fabrication is a bit similar to Women’s Best in that it’s super thin and seamless-feeling, so it doesn’t cut into your waist and give you that muffin-top look. Their tops are also definitely on the small side. An XS was very boobalicious on me, and a Medium would have almost worked on me if it was slightly smaller in the band/bust.

Use my code FFGVNN for 30% off your order!

SHOP NOW

8. LuLuLemon

Wunder Train High-Rise Tight 25″, $98

I’m going to be honest, LuLuLemon never lived up to the hype for me. BUT, I will admit that their sizing runs super small and their compression leggings really do suck it all in. I grabbed a size zero in their compression leggings (above) when I finally was gifted a pair, but to be honest I probably could have gone up a size and worn a 2 for a comfier/less muffin-toppy look. In their more “casual” leggings (the “Align”), a 0 worked great for me though. Sports bra wise, they also run small, the saleswoman recommended that I wear a 6.

I hope this post helped you! And let me know if there are any activewear brands I should check out in the comments section below!

An Honest OhMyG Review – A Silent Massager From Ioba Toys

January 7, 2021 by loxandleather 3 Comments

Looking to add some toys to your collection? Read my honest OhMyG review and see if this G Spot Massager is right for you.

Technology in the female self-love space has been continuing to kill it.

While there was once just a few basic categories of toys that women could purchase for self-pleasure, it seems that lately brands are coming up with all sorts of new-fangled fun that focus on what women actually want (not what looks good in a porno).

Case in point: The OhMyG by Ioba Toys.

I’ve never seen anything like this silent G-spot massager before. Not only did it come in a super-sleek, Apple-worthy case, but the movements of the little “pearl” on the tip of the toy is something I haven’t seen before (especially with the no-noise feature).

Ioba Toys is founded by a husband and wife duo that set out to make a collection of toys that weren’t so noisy. They currently only offer one product, The OhMyG.

The toy, which comes in white or millennial pink, is designed to massage your G-spot. While typically I prefer clitoral toys (and orgasms), I was definitely intrigued by this toy and had to give it a shot. Keep reading for my honest review!

Use code: ASHLEY30 for 30% off

My Review:

Full discloser: Like I said before, I generally have clitoral orgasms and I haven’t done a ton of exploration with my G-Spot. So, when I first sat down with the OhMyG, I actually tested the pearl vibration settings on my clit, which worked really well.

Because it’s made for your G-spot, it’s not a standard buzzy vibration, but not quite a suction-motion either. And, the only part of the OhMyG that moves is the pearl, which is really nice. The movement is made to be a “come hither” motion (the motion someone’s fingers would make to stimulate your G-spot), and on my clit it sort of felt like a light tapping or teasing motion.

When I tested the toy out for its intended area, I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Like I said, I’m not really a G-spot queen and the toy felt a little big/pointy for me (I kind of feel this way about most toys though, they’re just never realistic enough for me).

That being said, I’m definitely going to continue playing around with this toy because the packaging, lack of sound, and unique design really got me. Other reviewers also mention that this toy (along with many others) have a learning curve, and I think this is doubly true if you don’t do a lot of G-spot play already.

Below are some other quick-hitting review items.

The Good:

  • The OhMyG comes in a super sleek case that makes you feel like you just ordered a new iPhone for your nether regions
  • The toy comes with cleaning instructions, which is really important and not something I’ve seen with the majority of toys I’ve tried
  • The toy is super silent, like “you can totally use this while staying at your parents’ house for the holidays”-level silent
  • Even if you’re not all about your G-spot, the toy is also a fun feeling on your clit (or potentially on other body parts?)
  • You can use my code ASHLEY30 for 30% off!

The Bad:

  • If you aren’t already super familiar with finding your G-spot, there is a bit of a learning curve to this toy
  • It’s not water-proof

The Good To Know:

  • Every body is different! So, while this toy didn’t take me straight to O-Town, it might feel completely different on your body!

I hope this OhMyG review was helpful to you! Feel free to let me know any questions you may have in the comments section.
